Victorian captain Matthew Wade say fast bowler James Pattinson is not far away from a return to Test cricket.

Pattinson took 14 wickets at an average of 19.42 during the Matador Cup as the 25-year-old looks to reclaim his Test spot.

โ€œHis form in the Matador Cup was awesome. He did exactly what you want any fast bowler to do, come on and take wickets when you needed them,โ€ Wade said.

โ€œThey were slow wickets and he was still getting the ball through really comfortably.

โ€œHe'll be back in the Test team pretty soon, I'm pretty certain of that.โ€

Pattinson has played 13 Test matches, averaging 27.07 with the ball, but an injury-ravaged career to date has meant he has not featured in the national squad since march 2014.
