Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo secured third place in the 2016 Formula One drivers championship after he was promoted to third place in Mexico two weeks ago, after Sebastian Vettel was penalized for moving under braking when the Australian driver attempted an overtaking maneuver on the penultimate lap of the race.
Therefore, his battle for position is over, but the two drivers ahead of him, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, still have it all to play for as they battle it out for the 2016 crown. If Rosberg wins, he has the championship, if Hamilton wins, it goes to Abu Dhabi in two weeks' time.
So what does that mean for Ricciardo this weekend, especially with weather forecasters predicting rain on both qualifying and race day? Will it hamper his chances of winning? The answer is no, if he senses a chance a victory, he will grab it with both hands!
โYeah, it looks like it's going to be potentially wet on the weekend, which is going to make it interesting,โ he said. โThere's obviously a little bit less pressure on everyone else but I'm envious of their positions. I'd like to have that little bit of pressure.โ
โAnyway, if there's an opportunity we still go for it. We race, and that's how it's going to be. If it's wet it's going to make it interesting. It's going to be fun. We'll see how it pans out on Sunday but hopefully we get a good race on Sunday.โ
