Australian Daria Gavrilova's US Open campaign is over, after losing in three sets to American Shelby Rogers in the longest ever women's match at the event.

Rogers defeated the 25th seed in a whopping three hours and 33 minutes, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) to advance to the third round.

Gavrilova saved four match points and came back from a break down on three occasions to force the third set tiebreaker, showing her typical fighting spirit, before eventually succumbing to the home tow favourite.

The two players shared a long embrace following the epic encounter which featured a 90 minute decider.

Rogers will next face fourth seed, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

Gavrilova's exit leave Ash Barty as the sole Aussie left in the women's draw.
