Australian Nick Kyrgios has been beaten by German young gun, Alexander Zverev, at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Kyrgios was beaten 6-4, 6-3 in 73 minutes, as he continued to be hampered by the hip injury that has plagued him since just after the French Open.
The 22-year-old had retired injured from two first round matches since Wimbledon, but looked to be on the improve in Montreal, beating Victor Troicki and Paulo Lorenzi with relative ease in the opening two rounds.
However, his hip injury flared again during the opening set and he called for trainer during after going down 6-4.
Zverev got an early break in the second, as he did in the first, and once again Kyrgios had several break point chances, but failed to convert any, with the world No.8 eventually closing out the second 6-3.
Zverev next face South African Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals.
