It appears as if there are some dark storm clouds hovering over the Formula One World at present, with reports from various sources online indicating that Ferrari has submitted a written report to the FIA's Charlie Whiting regarding a new suspension system.

According to German publication Bild and Italian paper Gazzetta Dello Sport, Ferrari developed a new system very similar to Mercedes including a hydraulically networked chassis, and instead of taking any unnecessary risks with their new car, asked the FIA for clarification of the systems legality.

Reports now indicate that the system is indeed illegal due to the fact that it varies the ride height of the car, giving an added aerodynamic effect rather than simply acting like a regular suspension system.

Both Ferrari and Mercedes have declined to comment on the matter.
