After finishing 12th in front of his home fans in Spain on Sunday afternoon, Fernando Alonso flew to Indianapolis to begin the first day of this week's official practice for his next project, the Indianapolis 500, that will be run on May 28th.

Day one of practice this week is reserved for rookie drivers, and those returning after a lengthy absence from the series, so when his day around the famous brickyard came to a close, he was the quickest rookie with a best time of 40.607 with an average speed of 221.63 mp/h, slightly quicker than  Oriol Servia, who clocked a 220.75.

This was just day one for Alonso in the McLaren-Honda-Andretti entry with the former F1 champ expected to test here every day this week before qualifying on the weekend.

He completed 36 laps of the oval track in total.

"You just remind yourself exactly what you were driving two weeks ago, so you go flat out," Fernando said.
