Australian cricket cult hero and batting star Travis Head has revealed that rival and former England skipper Ben Stokes will move in with him for a few weeks this summer ahead of the Big Bash League season.

Stokes, who retired from the England Test cricket team in June, recently announced that he will be playing for the Adelaide Strikers this summer. Alongside proud South Australian Head when he doesn't have national commitments.

Speaking on Triple M's The Rush Hour with JB and Billy, Head said he was keen to take Stokes under his wing as the two are set to shack up together.

"I've got a new housemate. Big Stokesy," Head said.

"He's gonna play. He's gonna kip up at mine for a few weeks and I'll make sure I look after him."

In terms of what Head has planned to entertain Stokes while he is on Australian soil, the Australian Test opener said he would keep that off the record given the Englishman's wild few months on the back of newspapers.

"We'll keep that offline I reckon, he has had a bit of trouble over the last six weeks," he joked.

"(England) stay one street back from Hindley Street (during the Ashes). You have to walk through it to get to the hotel. Those bright lights, I'm worried about him. But he will be alright."

Head, who has been a star for the Strikers since 2013, said Stokes joining the Big Bash League is a major coup for the tournament's credibility on the world stage.

"It's one of the biggest signing the Big Bash has had in years probably when you go back and you look at (Kevin Pietersen) and (Shane Warne) that played. We probably haven't had that sort of calibre for years now," he said.

"I'm probably missing a few, and probably stiff on a few blokes I haven't thought of.

"I know there is a lot of conversation at the moment going around what is happening with that competition at the minute and how we get big superstars like that playing and more of them.

"I think we want to see two or three in each team along with hopefully the Test stars at some stage hopefully being able to go back and play and turn the competition into a really powerhouse one. And where it should be and not where it (is) at the minute.

"I look forward over the next few years hopefully that changing and Stokesy is the start of that so well done to the Adelaide Strikers."
