Rookie Formula One racer Max Verstappen, is certainly making a name for himself in the pinnacle of Motorsports with a promotion from the junior to the senior team after only a handful of races, then taking his first Grand Prix victory in the Spanish Grand Prix and several other podium finishes throughout the year.
Admittedly, sometimes his driving style has been called into question, mainly by other drivers after he would wait for them to make a move, then cut them off. As a result of his driving style and the complaints it caused, the FIA acted and put a new penalty in place for when a driver moved under braking to stop a fellow driver making an overtaking manoeuvre stick.
While he has caused the wrath of his fellow drivers, Max isn't sorry for giving his all to Red Bull and making sure he gets the best result possible for the Milton Keynes based squad.
Now, as we head into the final race of the season, the young Dutchman has admitted that he is very happy with how the season has worked out for him and he cant wait for 2017…
It's a phenomenal season for you, claiming your first win and six other podiums so far. Satisfied?
I think we can look back and be very happy with 2016. There is plenty of work to do for next year with the regulation changes and I think everyone is excited to see the new cars so I can't wait to get started.
Yas Marina is a pretty special place, what with the subterranean pit exit, the faster opening sectors and the slower marina section. What's it like to drive?
The track design in Abu Dhabi is quite different; there are a lot of low speed corners and combinations. The unique layout means it is challenging, a small mistake during one of the many corner sequences can ruin a lap. It is also important to have a strong car in the last sector to keep the tyres alive.
That last sector is great for watching you guys at work.
Yeah, the hotel goes over the track, which is pretty special and it's great for spectators in that sector. I have had a quick look around the area and spent a bit of time in Dubai which is always good fun. Maybe this year I'll sample a bit more Arabic food as I haven't really got stuck into that yet.
