The four teams consist of eight players each, making up the 24 selected All-Stars and have been drafted by members of TNT's Inside the NBA crew Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith.
The four teams will compete in a mini-tournament consisting of three games.
Teams one and two will face off in semi-final one and teams two and three will face off in semi-final two, with the winner of each game set to face off in the championship game. For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.
The fourth team will consist of first-year, second-year and G-League players who will be the eventual winning team in a similar style tournament for the league's rising stars which will be decided two days before the All-Star game.
The format shake-up comes after several failed attempts at making the All-Star game relevant again as interest in the annual event is waning. Players are often criticised for the limited defence that is played in the game and a general lack of effort.
