Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric says that Sergio Ramos wants to stay at the Spanish captain.

There have been widespread reports that Ramos would leave Los Blancos for Manchester United.

However, his teammate believes that the defender will stay at the club.

Ramos has now also been named Madrid's new captain after the departure of Iker Casillas, which may prompt him to remain in Spain.

"I hope that Sergio stays as he's so important for us," Ramos is quoted as saying by SPORT. "(He is) our captain and our leader, on and off the pitch.

"He seems happy and I feel that he will stay. I'm sure he wants to stay, too."
