A first lap incident ended Jason Bright's hope of scoring any worthwhile points towards the Jason Richards Trophy at the first of four races at the Auckland SuperSprint today, his BOC contender getting hit by Chris Pither after he went too high on a kerb and bounced back onto the track, hitting Jason in his wake.
As a result Jason went across the grass and slid down the wall until he blocked pit entrance, causing the race officials to throw a red flag on lap 3.
Thankfully Jason was uninjured in the shunt, however, the same can't be said for his car, that sustained just as much damage as it did in his Bathurst crash a month ago.
With Jason ruled out of any further on track action today, it's a race against time as all hands are on deck to get the car ready for action tomorrow.
“That's not really how we wanted our race to go, it's disappointing to have it all over by lap one,” Jason said. “Chris Pither going up through the kink under the bridge, normally you go through there side by side, it looks like he's got the kerb on the inside and sent me from the grass into the wall."
"It's done quite a bit of damage to the car, the guys are already into it and trying to fix it. They won't get it repaired for today but hopefully we can be back on track tomorrow.”
