Senna Agius has officially completed his much anticipated move to satellite team, Tech 3 KTM for the 2027 MotoGP season, reportedly joining on a two year deal.
Agius will join experienced Italian rider Luca Marini in a fresh lineup for the Tech 3 KTM squad, a rider known for his meticulous ability to understand and develop a motorcycle, a feature that will ease Senna's transition into the premier class.
"Today a lifelong dream of mine has come true, reaching MotoGP," Agius said when speaking to MotoGP media.
"So many years of hard work have gone into this moment, and I'm incredibly grateful to Guenther and everyone at Tech3 for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to repay their faith.
"I know the challenge ahead, but I'm ready to learn, work hard, and become the best version of myself with this team."
The Camden local found his breakthrough on the two-wheeled sport in the Moto2 European Championship where he finished runner-up in 2022 before being crowned champion in the 2023 season.
This success earnt Agius his breakthrough into a permanent Moto2 ride with the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP team in 2024, where in his debut season claimed a memorable podium finish at Phillip Island, charging through the field to finish third after starting all the way back in 13th.
2025 saw Agius claim his maiden win in the Moto2 class at Silverstone, after an incredible final lap battle, he then went on to become the first Australian to win on home soil in the class, with a dominant display at Phillip Island.
Currently sitting fourth in the championship, the 21-year-old has claimed two further victories this season in the Austin and Jerez.
With amazing race craft, at times, Agius has been criticised for his inconsistent qualifying performances, however, has turned a corner this season claiming his maiden pole position at the season opener in Thailand before his latest at Misano.
Tech 3 KTM boss and former principal of the Haas F1 team, Guenther Steiner, spoke to MotoGP media on the arrival of Agius in 2027.
"We believe Senna has the qualities to make a very strong step into MotoGP. He has shown impressive speed and maturity in Moto2," he said.
"What really stood out to us was his determination to keep improving and his attitude towards the work required to succeed.
“We are building a team for a completely new era of MotoGP, and we wanted to combine experience with young talent. Senna represents an exciting part of that future."
In 2027, MotoGP is moving into a new 850cc era, with smaller engines, reduced aero, smaller fuel tanks and the banning of holeshot and ride-height devices.
The Australian will be joining the class as one of five rookies alongside fellow Moto2 riders Dani Holgado, David Alonso and Izan Guevara, and World Superbikes championship leader Nicolo Bulega.
Agius will be flying the flag for Australians on the grid from 2027 onwards, with veteran rider Jack Miller completing a move to Yamaha in World Superbikes after 12 seasons in MotoGP.
