Australia's XI for the second Test against New Zealand has been set.

Victorian quick James Pattinson will come into the side for the injured Peter Siddle.

Siddle struggled during the first Test with back spasms and was forced from field in the final session of the second last day of the Test.

"Peter experienced some discomfort in his back during the first Test in Wellington and has not recovered sufficiently enough to play the Test,” Team Physiotherapist David Beakley said.

"At this stage the plan is for him to stay with the squad in Christchurch for the remainder of the tour before returning to Melbourne for further investigation.”
