Australia's five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka might have gotten off to a winning star, but it's in the face of a long injury list in their bowling department which is about to get worse.
All of Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Mitch Marsh and Kane Richardson have already fallen to injury, with Ashton Agar playing the first ODI on Wednesday evening through worsening pain as he battled a side strain. Starc and March are due to return in the second half of the series.
Agar has been sent for scans on Wednesday, but looks set to at the very least miss the second ODI, to be played on Thursday evening.
It's understood that if the scans don't come back favourably, he could be battling to make the Test series which will round out Australia's multi-format tour of Sri Lanka.
The injury to Agar leaves Australia with just a handful of fit specialist bowlers in the squad - being Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Jhye Richardson and Mitch Swepson, with Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green also on tour. Green, however, won't be able to bowl until at least the third ODI as he is managed, while Scott Boland has also been moved into the squad as cover.
Agar's injury will come as a blow on both the batting and bowling fronts for Australia, with the Melbourne-born 28-year-old taking 2 for 49 in the first ODI as one of the best bowlers for Australia, while also often playing a role with the bat down the order.
It's likely that Swepson will come straight into the team as his replacement on Thursday for the second ODI, while Australia could look to the "A" squad, who are also currently in Sri Lanka, for a replacement if needed, with Matthew Kuhnemann the most likely call up.
