Even though Sebastian Vettel was unable to capitalize on his first pole position of the season and secure his third win, Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene has praised both Seb and his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen for delivering a great race in Russia on Sunday.
However, that said, Arrivabene acknowledges that they could have had a better end result than second and third, if both drivers managed to get off the line better than they did….
“A shame, because the result could have been better. We didn't get a great start and that penalised us for the rest of the race, on a track where overtaking is difficult.”
There have been comments that the Maranello based squad should have brought Sebastian in for his pit stop around the same time as race leader and eventual winner, Valtteri Bottas, and that by leaving him out for an extra 7 laps compromised the end result.
Arrivabene believes their strategy call was good and that they are buoyed by the race pace displayed by both drivers…
“Our race pace was very good, as indeed was our strategy,” he said. “Once again, both Seb and Kimi proved their worth, driving great races. Now it's already time for us to look ahead to the next Grand Prix in Spain.”
