Red Bull Holden Racing team driver and reigning series champion, Shane van Gisbergen, was left languishing down the field in ninth place at the end of the opening day of practice at the Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin today, the Kiwi racer complaining that something ‘has been broken' all day.
At the end of the second 45 minute free practice session, where his teammate Jamie Whincup topped the timesheets and Team Vortex driver Craig Lowndes, the third man in the Triple Eight garage, was third, Shane found himself more than three tenths adrift.
Shane is saying that the car just doesn't feel like it normally does and he is hoping the team can fix the horrendous feelings he experienced today before tomorrow's qualifying and race one.
"It wasn't a very good day. The car just doesn't feel normal, something has been broken all day, so we've got to find out what it is. We're not sure what it is, otherwise we would have fixed it,” he said. “We were still okay, it just doesn't feel like our normal car.”
“Something is quite bad. We're still quick, but it just feels horrendous, so hopefully we can fix it. We had too many problems today to get a feel for the track, we're just chasing our tail round in circles. Luckily we get another practice session tomorrow."
