Former Newcastle player Joel Griffiths says this A-League season will be former Socceroo David Carney's best yet.
The former Blackpool winger was on fire last weekend for the Jets, scoring once and setting up another, as Newcastle beat Wellington 2-1 to start the season a winning note.
“This is a massive year for Dave,” former Socceroo Griffiths told Fox Sports News.

“He's had a pretty tough time of late. He's a player I've a lot of respect for. I'm friends with him off the field.
“He lost his Dad in the pre-season but seeing him score that goal [against Wellington in Round 1], I was so happy for him.”
Carney faces old club Syndey FC on Saturday.
