Melbourne City have been dealt a huge blow with defender Ivan Franjic sidelined for a further two months.

Franjic has been out injured with a quad injury and was hopeful of returning in time for round one of the A-League season.

However, Franjic re-injured his quad at training last week and now does not look likely to return for almost two months.

“Ivan reinjured his quad early last week. Although minor, this is a new injury and will be treated as such,” coach John van't Schip told the Herald Sun.

“We expect Ivan to return in around 5-7 weeks following the injury. However, he will be closely monitored throughout the rehabilitation period.”
