Scott McLaughlin made it two from two at the Barbagello Raceway today when he secured the victory in race 8. Added to his victory here yesterday, this means the number 17 has been on the top step twice while Scotty notched up his tenth win in the Supercar series.
Apart from the regular pitstops mixing up the field Scotty was never really challenged for the lead and made it the perfect weekend for team boss Roger Penske.
“It's fantastic to get the #17 Ford in the number one spot for Dick and the team. I was pretty nervous about my first race in front of the big bosses but they believe in me and as a driver that's all you can ask,” he said after climbing from the car.
Craig Lowndes had drama from the get go when he stalled on the formation lap, got it going, then stopped again during the lap. His Team Vortex contender had a problem with the pit lane limiter that cut all power to his engine. Therefore, he was forced to start from the rear of the field, was then tapped by the LDM entry of Alex Rullo causing the Supercar veteran to spin as he attempted to enter pitlane. By the time he emerged he was a lap down.
With the race being relatively calm in terms of incidents, the safety car Lowndes was hoping for didn't come, but he managed to unlap himself with faster tyres and ended up crossing the line in 7th place after the 83 lap event.
Chaz Mostert finished second for Prodrive with Jamie Whincup the highest Red Bull Holden in third. Mark Winterbottom finished fourth followed by Will Davison Fabian Coulthard and Craig Lowndes.
