New PSG signing Angel Di Maria has explained the reasons for his recent exit from Old Trafford after less than a year on the books.

Manchester United bought Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British record transfer fee of £59.7 million just 12 months ago. However, it somewhere all went wrong and he failed to find his best form at United, before joining Paris-Saint Germain this transfer window.

The Argentine admitted yesterday that his disagreements with manager Louis Val Gaal were a big part of his decision to leave the club.

“Van Gaal has his philosophy and one of the things that made me want to leave is that,” he said on ESPN Radio Argentina.

“It is difficult to adapt to Van Gaal. I had a couple of rows with him.”

He was also frustrated with the different positions Van Gaal played him in the team.

“I started well and after that I got injured," Di Maria said.

“Things didn't go well for me and Van Gaal changed my position.

“I spoke with [Laurent] Blanc and his thinking was that I'd play in a similar position to where I did at Real Madrid.”
