England have confirmed that Jonny Bairstow will miss the T20 World Cup just hours after omitting Jason Roy from their squad.
England announced the 15-man squad with three extra reserves to travel to Australia for the tournament on Friday evening (AEST), with Jos Buttler to captain his first major tournament for the nation following Eoin Morgan's departure from the system.
Roy's absence from the squad following a run of poor form for the national team in the shortest format, where he has scored only 206 runs at 18.72 in his last 11 T20s.
Instead, Phil Salt, who is bound for a second BBL campaign this summer after being taken in the draft, has been included in the squad.
Bairstow was originally included in the squad, however, England confirmed just hours later that he has suffered a freak injury playing golf and will be ruled out, with his replacement yet to be named.
"Bairstow sustained a lower limb injury in a freak accident whilst playing golf on Friday in Leeds. He will see a specialist next week to ascertain the full extent of the injury," the statement read.
