Another year, another report linking Xabi Alonso with a return to Anfield.

This time it's Italian paper TuttoMercato that has reported the 33-year-old would be keen on a move back to his former side, where he spent five seasons between 2004 and 2009.

Alonso is yet to be offered a new contract at the Allianz Arena and is not guaranteed to receive a new deal, given his age and the uncertain future of manager Pep Guardiola.

Therefore, the report suggests he is considering his options and would be willing to move back to Liverpool.

“Going back to England is always a joy,” Alonso was quoted as saying in the report.

It has also suggested that the MLS may be another option, as well as a move to Qatar where he could be reunited with fellow Spanish midfielder Xavi.
