This year's edition of boxing day EPL has produced 23 goals as top sides fail to win enabling Manchester City and Tottenham to close the gap at the summit.

The action kicked off at the Brittania where Stoke City condemned Manchester United to a fourth straight defeat to increase the pressure on manager Louis van Gaal.

Bojan Krkic broke the deadlock after a poor header back to David de Gea from Memphis Depay allowed Glen Johnson to play it back to the Spanish forward.

Stoke went 2-0 ahead through Marko Arnautovic's 25-yard finish after Bojan's free-kick had hit the wall.

Van Gaal dropped captain Wayne Rooney, who came on as a half-time substitute, and United struggled to create chances. Stoke were by far the superior side as this is the third time they've beaten decent opposition at the Britannia, having got the better of both Manchester City and Chelsea.

Over at Anfield, leaders Leicester saw their nine-match unbeaten Premier Legaue run ended by Liverpool sub Christian Benteke's second-half winner.

The Reds dominated the first half at Anfield, but failed to fully test Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

They were rewarded when Roberto Firmino's pull back from the left was steered in by a stretching Benteke to move Liverpool up to 8th, five points off the top four.

Leicester offered little threat as they appeared to be more focused on their next clash which is against Manchester City at home. Nathan Dyer came the closest to scoring as Ranieri's side failed to score for the first time this season.

The late kick off between Southampton and Arsenal at St Marys saw the Gunners miss a golden chance to go top of the Premier League as they were thrashed by the Saints 4-0.

Full-back Cuco Martina marked his first league start with a stunning goal, curling in from 30 yards out.

Arsenal's Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott missed free headers, before Shane Long finished from close range and Jose Fonte headed in the third.

Long struck the post with three minutes remaining, but managed to add a fourth through the legs of Petr Cech.

Arsenal now remain two points adrift of leaders Leicester with City now hot on their tails, just one point behind in third.
