Hume City will know by Wednesday is their ambitious bid for former Juventus star David Trezeguet has been successful.
The NPL club has pitched an offer to the former striker for a one-off appearance in next Wednesday's FFA Cup semi-final clash with Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
Hume has been priced out of landing Ronaldinho and Turkey star Arda Turan, with Barcelona understood to have sought a huge loan fee for the midfielder who is unable to play until January due to the club's transfer ban from FIFA.
They opted not to pursue former Greece captain Giorgos Karagounis and have settled on Trezeguet, who won the 1998 World Cup with France.
If Trezeguet accepts Hume's offer, the club must then ratify a loan deal with Football Federation Australia.
Trezeguet, 38, is in Argentina and most recently played in a Juventus charity game, but his last official match was in 2014 with Indian Super League club Pune City, the same year he played for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.
