Antonio Giovinazzi was on duty for the Scuderia Ferrari team for the opening day of their Bahrain test on Tuesday and even though Sebastian Vettel was also in attendance, he was on tyre testing duties instead.

The young Italian driver completed no less than nine hours of testing and was locked into a technical debrief until late in the evening.

He showed maturity and professionalism at the wheel, setting a best lap of 1'31โ€984, good enough for the second best time of the day on Supersoft tyres, although he spent more time running the Mediums and also when downloading information with his engineers. He put in a total of 93 laps for the day.

The last time he was behind the wheel of an F1 car was in China for the Chinese GP, but he was thrilled at being behind the wheel of a race winning F1 carโ€ฆ

โ€œTo drive the car that won the last race and is leading the world championship, working with the Scuderia Ferrari engineers and mechanics, is not just a great feeling, it's a dream I've had since I was little and racing in karts. And today it came true. I enjoyed every single lap.โ€

The reality of testing could be seen elsewhere, as Vettel was working late into the evening, to make up for time lost earlier in the day, as he was at the wheel of another SF70H, working on a separate programme, tyre testing for Pirelli.
