After taking a few weeks break from the race track, Craig Lowndes and his Team Vortex crew are ready and raring to go this weekend at the Queensland Raceway for the Ipswich SuperSprint.
The Townsville round wasn't an easy ride for Craig as he was forced to fight his way through the field from some very bad qualifying performances left him near the back of the grid. But fight he did, coming from 21st to tenth in Sunday's race, however he wanted so much more.
The Townsville round has always been a monkey on his back so to speak as he has yet to claim a victory there in all the years it has been run, however, the same can not be said for this weekend's venue as he has taken more victories at the Queensland Raceway, his home venue, than any other driver.
You could say Craig knows this track like the back of his hand, if his hand was shaped like a paperclip that is! The team test here regularly and he has already notched up a total of 12 wins and 22 podium finishes around the totally flat layout on the outskirts of Ipswich, west of Brisbane.
"I'm looking forward to getting to Queensland Raceway, it's a track I've obviously had a lot of success at,” Craig said. “It's a simple layout, but always provides great racing with some good passing opportunities.”
“Our aim is of course to qualify better and after a good test day here last month I think we're in a strong position to do that. I got my last win here last year, so that definitely gives us confidence coming into the weekend, knowing that it's a strong track for us."
The series will return to the SuperSprint format this weekend with a 120 km race on Saturday followed by the longer 200km race on Sunday.
