Team Vortex driver Craig Lowndes had a fairly laid back, yet trouble free run in the third of four races at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix. The most experienced driver in the series around the Albert Park Circuit suffered with traffic problems yet again during the 13 lap event.
Moving up one position on the grid from his original 14th placed grid slot due to the fact that two drivers didn't take part due to a heavy crash yesterday (Nick Percat and Lee Holdsworth) meant that Lowndsey was stuck in the mid field and was unable to fight his way out of it.
There was a bit of a scuffle at the start as cars tried to make up places on the rolling start, but Craig kept his nose clean and just got on with the job, finishing in 14th place after being overtaken by Tim Slade in the final laps due to poor tyre life.
"There was a bit of carnage through the first couple of laps with the rolling start, but we managed to stay out of trouble," he said. "We made some adjustments to the car over night. Unfortunately we probably went the wrong way and lost rear tyre life very quickly during the race. I tried to make adjustments inside the car, but it didn't make enough of a difference, so we struggled towards the end of the race."
"It's all good to know and things that we can learn from for tomorrow and onward. We're learning a lot, which is what we're here for."
