Manchester United is a step closer to a returning the Champions League, with a 3-1 win in the first leg of their qualifying tie with Club Brugge.

Memphis Depay scored a first half brace to set up the win after United conceded an early goal in the eighth minute.

Michael Carrick conceded an own goal to give Brugge the lead, before Depay equalised just five minutes later with a low shot from the edge of the box.

He then gave United the lead just two minutes before half time with a curling shot from long range.

Marouane Fellaini then put the finishing touches on the win with a headed goal in injury time.

In last night's other Champions League qualification matches, FC Astana beat APOEL 1-0, Lazio accounted for Bayer Leverkusen 1- 0, Sporting Lisbon beat CSKA Moscow 2- 1 and BATE needed a late goal to beat Partizan 1-0.
