Mostert quickest on day one in Townsville

The opening day of play at the Townsville 400 saw Supercheap Auto driver Chaz Mostert at the top of the timesheets a tenth and a half faster than the DJR Team Penske of Scott McLaughlin with the Red Bull Holden of Shane van Gisbergen in a very credible third place overall.

“It was a pretty good session for us," Chaz said. "Obviously a big turnaround from Darwin and it's a credit to all of the guys and girls at PRA to go through the data from the last round and try and figure out where we've tracked down the wrong path at the last couple of events."

"The car felt pretty good in the window today as was pretty reasonable from the start as well. I think that we only needed to do a couple of changes .It was pretty hard to get an idea on the direction that we needed to head but by the end of practice two I think we had something we were reasonably happy with so we found a few changes helped today but a few that didn't as well.”

It wasn't all plain sailing for van Gisbergen after a spin at turn 8 after he hit the kerb but he was still fast enough to beat Mark Winterbottom who finished in fourth place overall.

Van Gisbergen's teammate, Jamie Whincup rounded out the top five.

Erebus driver David Reynolds was a brilliant sixth fastest ahead of Lee Holdsworth who also pu in a brilliant run to finish 7^th overall.

Rick Kelly, Will Davison and James Courtney rounded out the top ten.
