The New Orleans Pelicans have fired coach Willie Green after a rough 2-10 start to the NBA season.
Fans have been calling for the coach to be fired since his 0-6 start to the season, which makes this decision by the Pelicans not a surprise to anyone.
Green was doomed when star Zion Williamson went down with another hamstring injury, forcing him to miss seven games thus far. Pelicans also have injuries to Dejounte Murray and Jordan Poole.
Green was hired for the 2021-22 season, and since then, he has had a 44% win record. This also included two playoff appearances, one in 2022 against the Suns and the other in 2024 against the Thunder.
It is a little unfortunate with his firing, as Green has had to coach multiple seasons with their star players being injured, which has not helped his case. When the Pelicans have been healthy, Green has been able to coach them to competitive seasons.
James Borrego is now the interim head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans as they hope to find more consistency for the rest of the season.
