Please not that these rankings do not take into account the results of the three completed round five fixtures.
1. Sydney FC (1)
Another week, another decent yet unspectacular performance, another three points for the sky blues. The story of the day was two late goals to the man Sydney signed after he was told he was no longer wanted at the Mariners, Matt Simon. Simon's goals came back to haunt his old side, who bought bravely after being reduced to ten men before half time. We won't discuss the refereeing decisions, they've been debated to death this week already, but Sydney can be extremely happy to sit top of the table, despite not really hitting their straps yet. They again won the possession stat, comfortably, away from home. Good signs.
2. Brisbane Roar (2)
Brisbane entered their home fixture against winless Adelaide United as favourites, and the three-nil score line was probably wasn't an accurate depiction of the game. Adelaide had their chances, but Brisbane took theirs. Brandon Borrello netted another two goals, continuing his excellent start to the season. He has now scored in his last three starts. Matt McKay and Thomas Broich continue to pull all the strings in midfield, with McKay especially looking like he has the ball on a string. Brisbane have some heavy artillery in their attack, and thus far they are putting it to great use.
3. Newcastle Jets (4)
Newcastle's win over Melbourne City was perhaps the most unlikely we will see all season. City were two-nil up, and all over their hosts, and to be honest it looked like an instance of City by how many. With just over half an hour to go, the Aaron Moy City looked well on track, before a headed goal to Ben Kantarovski changed the entire game. From there Newcastle had all the answers. Milos Trifunovic's goal from the spot in the 74th minute looked as though it may pick up an unlikely point, before his winner in the 80th minute wrapped up an incredible victory. Newcastle's start to the season has been nothing short of amazing.
4. Melbourne Victory (5)
The Victory have returned to winning ways following their three-nil win over Wellington on Monday Night. Besart Berisha's goal was a moment of individual brilliance that will be replayed over and over for years to come. From there, Victory had the game by the scruff of the neck, and could have added to their three goals. They bossed this game for the large majority of the contest, with almost 60% possession. The possession stat doesn't always give a true indication of the game, but in this instance, it did. Wellington had their chances, but this was Victory's game, and they deserved nothing less than three points.
5. Wellington Phoenix (3)
The Phoenix have been good this season. I say good rather than great, due to Monday's night's performance. They started well, and could have pocketed an early goal, but from there they really had no answer to the Victory onslaught. They had three defenders within reach of Berisha, yet could not put themselves between the Albanian and the goal. This game was not all one way traffic as the score suggests, but the Phoenix did run a fairly distant second. The Victory will do this to teams at times this season, Wellington don't need to dwell on this.
6. Melbourne City (6)
City don't move down in the rankings due only to the sides below them not taking advantage, not through their own efforts. For 50 or so minutes, it looked as though those efforts would net a very comfortable victory, yet they let a two goal lead, at home, slip to the Jets. Aaron Mooy continued to prove he is the best player in the competition, but even he could not help his side wrestler back momentum once it was lost. Ill-discipline cost them, but an inability to create chances against the run of the game was their biggest downfall. When they're on top, they're great, but if their opponent gets a foot hold, City struggle to earn it back.
7. Western Sydney Wanderers (10)
The Wanderers are off the mark, in terms of victories, in 2015/16 thanks to a pretty solid one-nil victory over the Glory. A brilliant low strike from marquee man Dario Vidosic, on his first start for his new club, was enough to earn victory, although they could have won by a much more comfortable margin. With Bridge and Santalaab back on the bench, the Wanderers looked a more competent outfit going forward, although Piovaccari is still drawing blanks in front of goal. There was plenty like about the Wanderers efforts at Pirtek, but they will need to find a killer instinct in front of goal to build on this win.
8. Central Coast Mariners (7)
The Mariners incredible opening round win is all but forgotten after three straight losses. The latest was a disappointing loss to Sydney FC. They probably didn't get the rub in terms of the officials, but good sides make their own luck. They fought hard for over 45 minutes with ten men, but two defensive lapses cost them a point. Unfortunately for Mariners fans they had to sit and watch their former hero score two goals and take the game away from them. Their attacking weapons have been blunted over the past few weeks, and their defence has shipped some sloppy goals.
9. Perth Glory (8)
The Glory enter their FFA Cup final appearance on the back of a one-nil loss to the Wanderers. They fielded an understrength side due to injury, although perhaps the Glory have one eye on their cup final. Despite some good signs, the Wanderers were well worth their three points, and the Glory were relegated to a storm watchers at times. If not for a brilliant game between the sticks from former Wanderer Ante Covic, the score-line could have been much worse. This game looked like more of a nuisance for the Glory than an opportunity for three points. That being said, they welcome back some big funs in the next few weeks.
10. Adelaide United (9)
Adelaide's only goal this season remains an own goal scored by Mayoral. After four games, that simply isn't good enough, especially for a side this stacked with attacking prowess. Simply put, they should have scored on their trip to Brisbane. They had more than enough chances, but they didn't take one. Given the chances they created, to only register four shots on target in ten shots, Adelaide really need to sort this out before their season ends before it starts. The possession is there, the chances are there, the finished product is just lacking.
