Please not that these rankings do not take into the account any round seven fixtures that have already taken place.
1. Brisbane Roar (2)
The Roar's amazing start to the season continued after their one-nil victory over the travelling Glory. This was far from their most fluid win of the season, but they were good for their three points. Henrique's 74th minute strike was enough to bank all three points. The Roar registered well over 60% of possession and strung together over 200 more passes than their opponents. The Roar-celona comparisons of the Ange era aren't there just yet, but this side looks very, VERY good.
2. Melbourne Victory (4)
In the game's biggest game of the round, the Victory compounded Sydney FC's grand final pain with a 4-2 win in front of a disappointing Sydney crowd. Looking only at the result, and not the refereeing, the Victory put another four goals past a side supposedly hell bent on revenge for their grand final embarrassment. A brilliant opening half hour saw Sydney twice take the lead only for the reigning premiers to peg their hosts back. A 68th minute goal to Costa Barbarouses and a very late Berisha goal ensured Melbourne Victory ultimate bragging rights yet again.
3. Sydney FC (1)
Sydney FC will feel hard done by in terms of the officials but on the night they simply were not good enough. Having twice held the lead, only to see it slip within five minutes, and then ten, Graham Arnold's men won't be too happy. Shane Smeltz's miss from close range proved costly as the Victory went ahead less than ten minutes later. It's hard to blame one moment, but if Smeltz had scored, as he should have, the complexion changes. Sydney had plenty of opportunities, but in the end the only thing that matters is another loss to their long term rivals.
4. Western Sydney Wanderers (5)
The Wanderers incredible 3-0 win away to Melbourne City saw them post their third straight victory. Somehow, despite dominating the first half, the Wanderers were unable to take a lead into the break, but were rewarded just two minutes after the resumption of play through Mitch Nichols. Dario Vidosic and the aforementioned Nichols have come together to forge a serious attacking threat. Piovaccari's first goal for the side all but wrapped up the points for the Wanderers, before a late Mark Bridge goal officially seeled it. After a slow start, Tony Popovic's men are firing.
5. Wellington Phoenix (7)
Wellington's 4-2 win over a desperate Adelaide United side was arguably the most entertaining game of the weekend. Both sides could have added to their scores, although it was the Phoenix who were deserved winners. The home fans barely settled in before their side was one nil behind, but just one minute later they were level. From there it was all Phoenix. Roly Bonevacia's first goal was well taken, but his second was a blistering, long range shot that will be long remembered. Matt Ridenton's clever finish from close range was enough to bank three points.
6. Melbourne City (3)
Melbourne City just can't seem to gain any traction this season. The Socceroo call up of Aaron Mooy has undoubtedly disrupted them, however they would have seen Friday night's game as a good chance for three points. Truth be told they were lucky to not be behind at half time, and the manner in which they did concede would not have pleased anyone. Two minutes after the break they failed to shut down an attack and were soon picking the ball out of the net. From there they didn't offer as much as they should have, and Piovaccari's controversial goal seemed to defeat them mentally. A third goal seemed a formality.
7. Newcastle Jets (6)
The Jets won't be talking about a point earned as much as two points lost after the latest derby draw. The Mariners were reduced to ten men after just 24 minutes, and the game looked over as a spectacle. They put together over 150 passes more than their visitors but created only nine chances. After finally taking the lead, they were unable to stop the ten men Mariners from a stoppage time equaliser. The Mariners started much brighter and only once the send-off occurred did the Jets gain any ascendancy. The majority of the hugely disappointing crowd of just 9,422 went home shaking their heads.
8. Central Coast Mariners (8)
The Mariners looked on in the opening 20 minutes of the F3 derby before being reduced to ten men. From there it was always going to be tough, but they held on until the final ten minutes. A 92nd minute equaliser earned a very valuable point. I don't like making comment of refereeing decisions but the Mariners very well could have had a spot kick before the game changing send off. It wasn't a win but it may feel like it such was the way they grabbed a point.
9. Perth Glory (9)
The Glory's disappointing start to the season got worse after drawing yet another blank. Despite the lateness of the Roar's only goal, it would probably have been unfair if the Glory had stolen a point as they were outplayed. 37% of possession isn't necessarily the end of the world, but they didn't put that 37% to good use. 67% pass accuracy on the other hand is a stat that will have the Glory brass worried. If you're not going to see a good percentage of the ball, you can't be giving it away. Worrying signs.
10. Adelaide United (10)
A few weeks ago I said that it was still early but Adelaide's season may be slipping away. Given the way results above them have fallen, Adelaide aren't a mile away from the rest of the pack, but if the positive results don't come fast, it may not be long before they are. Adelaide played their part in a very entertaining game on Friday evening, but there was only one side deserving victory, and it was not United. They can point to the early and late goals as signs of improvement, but results matter. They need a win.
