Bad news for Arsenal fans with news that Alexis Sanchez will miss the beginning of the Premier League season.

Coach Arsene Wegner says he won't rush his star player back, after a heavy workload in the Copa America, in which he scored the winning penalty to seal Chile's first ever Copa America title.

He will miss the Community Shield match against Chelsea on August 2 and the opening round of the season, while his availability for the second round is uncertain.

"He will be back on August 3 and usually it takes three weeks to be competitive. With Alexis it could be a little bit less. He will certainly miss the first game," Wegner said.

"He went into the Copa America a little bit jaded but when he had to turn up in the final he was there, always dangerous, always provoking opponents and the one with the guts to take the final penalty."
