Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have heaped further pressure on Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren, after knocking the Premier League side out of the League Cup with a 1-0 win.

Sheffield's Lewis McGugan scored the only goal of the game via low deflected shot from outside the box that beat Newcastle keeper Tim Krul on 76 minutes.

The win sends Sheffield Wednesday into the quarter finals of the League Cup for the first time since 2002, when they reached the semi final.

Meanwhile, Mathieu Flamini was the unlikely hero for Arsenal, netting a brace as the Gunners accounted for Tottenham 2-1.

Manchester United beat Tommy Oar's Ipswich 3-0, with new signing Martial continuing his stunning start to his career at Old Trafford, scoring after coming off the bench.

Chelsea comfortably accounted for League One side Walsall 4-1 to record a third straight victory after a poor start to the Premier League season.
