Supercar Championship leader Fabian Coulthard showed pace from his first outing in Practice 1 at the Barbagello Raceway in Perth today, the DJR Team Penske driver working with his engineering team to strike the fine balance required around the abrasive track surface.
The team arrived with a specific plan for the day, and worked through it making incremental improvements as the day wore on.
Fabian broke the track record on several occasions as he kept returning to the top of the leaderboard, but at the end of the second forty fine minute session he was forced to settle for second best after reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen bettered his time after going outside the track limits at turn 7 on his quick lap.
“We stuck to our plan today, working through a program to get the car feeling right ahead of tomorrow's qualifying and racing,” Fabian said. “The car feels good and seems to be good on its tyres, which will be important. Roger got the team together after the session, and it was a special moment. I love having him here so he can see the development in the team since his last visit.”
