Thursday night marked the tip-off of the 2025-26 NBL season. With five games over the weekend, we will break down and recap all of the action right here.

It all started with Tasmania JackJumpers facing off against Melbourne United at MyState Bank Arena in Tasmania. United was able to pick up the first win of the NBL season with a narrow 88-84 victory.

Recruit Milton Doyle led the way with a clutch performance against his former team, where he won a Championship in 2024. Doyle put in a total of 22 points in the win, along with the dagger shot. New faces, Tyson Walker, Finn Delany and Jesse Edwards also played a big role.

The JackJumpers new imports, Bryce Hamilton and David Johnson, didn't disappoint in their debuts as they combined for a total of 46 points.

Friday night action saw the New Zealand Breakers hosting the Brisbane Bullets. Brisbane were able to secure a 104-95 victory to begin their season campaign.

Tyrell Harrison was dominant for the Bullets as he put in 24 points and 15 rebounds. Three-time NBL Champion, Casey Prather, had a game-high 27 points, while Jaylen Adams and Javon Freeman-Liberty were also important as they both scored over double digits.

Breakers star Peter Jackson-Cartwright gave his best effort with 16 points and 12 assists. Import Izaiah Brockington put up 16 points, with big man Sam Mennenga adding in his 14 points.

The Saturday night double header began with South East Melbourne Phoenix smashing the Cairns Taipans with a 114-77 victory. The Phoenix had an all-around team performance with seven players scoring 10 or more points.

John Brown was everywhere with his 14 points and six steals. Star Nathan Sobey had 13 points and eight assists, while Veteran Angus Glover also added 18 points.

The second game of the doubleheader saw Tasmania visit the Perth Wildcats over in Western Australia. After starting their campaign with a loss, the JackJumpers jump back on the winners' list with a 75-72 point victory.

Bryce Hamilton was no doubt the star as he put up 26 points to carry his new team. Jo Lual-Acuil had an instant impact in his return to the NBL for Perth with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Mason Jones and Kristian Doolittle combined for 28 points in a loss.

The last game of Round One had Melbourne United return home to face the New Zealand Breakers, with both teams playing for the second time across the round.

United destroyed the Breakers in their home opener with a 114-82 point victory as they open up their season with two wins. Big man Jesse Edwards had 22 points, and Doyle added 15 points with eight assists.

NBL Next Star Dash Daniels, brother of NBA star Dyson Daniels, also had a solid performance. He put up 14 points off the bench.

2025 Champions Illawara Hawks, along with the 2022 and 2023 Champions Sydney Kings, did not play. Bryce Cotton and the Adelaide 36ers also didn't see any round one action.

All three teams will hit the court in Round two, with it all kicking off with Melbourne United facing rivals South East Melbourne Phoenix for Throwdown 29 on Thursday Night.
