Moises Henriques might have represented Australia in all three forms of the game, but that doesn't mean he understands his dramatic slide down the Test pecking order.
Despite a 15-man squad being named for the Ashes, and a further 11 being selected for Australia A to play the Aussies in a warm-up game ahead of the first Test against England, Henriques' name was nowhere to be found.
Henriques, who is 34 years of age, has shown little signs of slowing down and was included in a touring party who were set to go to South Africa following the most recently completed summer of cricket, only for the tour to be pulled due to COVID.
The allrounder is still at the top of his game on the international T20 circuit, and will captain the Sydney Sixers this summer.
Henriques, speaking to Cricket.com.au said he didn't agree with the selectors, given no red ball cricket has been played by a majority of the Australian squad (outside of some Sheffield Shield rounds early this summer) since that squad was named.
"I have a different view to what the selectors do," the 34-year-old said.
"To be picked on one Test tour and be told that I was there and thereabouts to be playing on that tour, then the next Test tour rolls around and you're not in the best 25.
"It's a huge fall, considering I hadn't played any other four-day games or (Sheffield) Shield games in that break.
"I didn't agree with the process of it all.
"I didn't really understand the logic.
"But it's not my job to understand the logic either.
"It's just my job to go out and keep playing as well as I can."
Henriques missed the start of the summer for New South Wales, which wouldn't have helped his cause, with his first match of the summer being after the squads for both Australia and Australia A were already named.
The four-Test allrounder struggled in that game with bat and ball, scoring just seven and six, before taking a single wicket across the two innings.
