Every autumn, a litany of Australia's best weight-for-age runners race over 2000 metres at Royal Randwick Racecourse for the right to be crowned the Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner.

Previously held across a three-mile distance, the current two-kilometre iteration of the race has been the distance set since 1954, and since 2014, recent champions have pocketed more than four million dollars in prizemoney.

The massive cheque on offer makes the QES the richest race on Sydney's autmun racing card, as well as making it the third richest weight-for-age race in the nation, behind only the Cox Plate and the Everest.

This juicy carrot makes sure that the field each year is more stacked than the winning owner's pockets.

From a champion of the mid-twentieth century to a mare with more wins to her name than any other runner, here is the full list of Queen Elizabeth Stakes winners since 1954.
