The South Australian government will attempt to lure Premier League champions Leicester City to Adelaide to play Adelaide United during the pre-season.

Australia has become a hot destination for Premier League clubs in the lead in to the season, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all touring in recent years.

Now Adelaide United want to tee up a match with the talk of the football world, Leicester City.

Minister for Sport Leon Bignell revealed on Wednesday that the SA state government has written a letter to Leicester City's management asking if the club would be interested in coming to Australia to take on the A-League champions at Adelaide Oval.

“There has been two great stories in soccer this week one is Adelaide United the other is Leicester City,'' Bignell said.

“We could call it the FairyTale Cup but we sent our congratulations to the club for winning the English premier league title and we have asked if they would play a historic showcase game at Adelaide Oval.

“This has been a brilliant week for the sport.”
