McLaren driver Fernando Alonso enjoyed two trouble-free and consistent practice sessions around the streets of Marina Bay on Friday afternoon/evening.
The Spanish driver led the way in first practice, before ending up immediately behind his teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne in a very pleasing seventh place at the end of FP2.
At one stage during FP1, Alonso was asked if he wanted to do another lap during one of his runs to which he replied, ‘no, please no.”
He also complained of no power at one stage, however the team told him how to combat the issue over the radio and he was fine. The hint of another PU failure didn't materialize, much to Alonso's delight.
“Our performance was good; basically in line with what we were expecting around here. We knew that, at this track, we were going to be more competitive than we were at Spa and Monza,” Fernando explained.
“We got both cars into the top 10, and I hope we can achieve that in qualifying and then again in Sunday's race. We need those points: we're ninth in the constructors' championship, so every opportunity we get to score points, we need to grab with both hands.”
Fernando was also buoyed by the news that the team were dropping Honda engines at the end of the season and joining forces with Renault instead.
