According to sources, McLaren Honda driver Fernando Alonso may be missing this years Singapore Grand Prix with the Spaniard said to be trying his hand in the season final Indycar race at the Sonama raceway on the same weekend, 15 – 17th of September.

At this stage, there is no official confirmation, but it is thought that Alonso wishes to drive the DW12 aero kit before the series switches to a new spec aero kit next season.

If true, is it because he is planning on racing in the series next year?

He did say he would reveal his 2018 plans in, yep, you guessed it, September!

McLaren CEO Zak Brown spoke with Indycar's Robin Miller and hinted that something was going down at Andretti Honda in regard to the Sonama event, but we will have to wait for the official confirmation in the coming days.
