Andrea Dovizioso became the ninth rider to win a Grand Prix in the 2016 MotoGP season when he converted his brilliant pole position into a superb victory in the rain in Malaysia.

This is Ducati's second win of the season and Dovi's second, his first since the 2009 season.

In very tricky conditions, the lead of the race changed multiple times on the first lap and it was the Yamaha of Valentino Rossi in the lead as they crossed the line, Jorge Lorenzo took to the lead from the start, which was delayed for twenty minutes due to the weather conditions, however the Spaniard struggled to keep up with the leading five riders, Rossi, Dovi, Iannone, Marquez and Cal Crutchlow, and was running in a distant sixth

However, one by one the track claimed its victims with Crutchlow the first to fall, followed by Marquez and then Iannone. Dovi eventually took the lead back from Rossi when the Yamaha rider started to have problems with his front tyre….

“I had a great battle with Iannone, I was optimistic after I passed him but then, I started to have a problem on the right with the front tyre and I had to slow down.”

Rossi eventually finished second with Jorge Lorenzo coming through to finish on the third step of the rostrum.

2016 World Champion Marc Marquez eventually finished the race in 13th place.
