David Reynolds put in another strong performance in the Top End on Sunday to secure another top ten finish for the Erebus Motorsport team. After securing a provisional fourth on the grid, Reynolds was firmly into the top ten shootout and when all was said and done, he found himself starting the twelfth race of the Supercar season from 7th on the grid.
“Today was pretty good, we made the shootout which was the first box to tick,” he said. “Unfortunately, I did a pretty bad job and locked the front right tyre into turn five and cost myself third or fourth position and had to settle for seventh; so, I was really disappointed in myself and felt like I let down the team also. We have definitely improved our qualifying position though so that's a big tick.”
The 70 lap race was always going to be a tough and gruelling event, but Reynolds kept his head and was up into fifth by the end of the first lap. He continued to fight and work through the pack after his compulsory pitstops and after a massive battle with Tim Slade and Craig Lowndes for fifth place in the dying laps, he found himself unable to get through and was forced to settle for the same place he start in 70 laps earlier, 7th.
“I had a pretty good start and ended up a couple spots up after the first lap and had a really good strategy; every time we come in to the pits I got clean air and it made my race really easy. On the other hand, every time I got stuck behind a car I lost a bit of aero and I couldn't produce a lap time and it was making it difficult to drive, so I lost a couple of spots because of that. Otherwise it's been a really positive weekend and the team has done a really good job.”
