Toby Price has surged into the lead of the Dakar Rally, with the Australian claiming the first competitive stage of the event in Argentina.

The heavy rains that forced the cancellation of Stage 1 led to the route being shortened for Stage 2, leaving a 354 kilometre route taking competitors from Villa Carlos Paz to Termas do Rio Hondo.

Price dominated the stage for KTM, leading at every checkpoint to claim his second career stage victory by 20 seconds from Husqvarna rider Rubén Faria, with Slovakian KTM rider Sven Svitko almost a further minute away in third.
