Right after his maiden victory in the Formula One series at the Sochi Autodrom in Russia, Valtteri Bottas and his Mercedes team travelled directly to Budapest in Hungary for a special live demonstration. The Brackley based squad not alone for this brilliant display with Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo coming along for the ride.
Daniel didn't have the best of weekends in Russia after being forced into retirement with a rear brake issue after just six laps of Sunday's race, however the Australian certainly had a blast with colleague Valtteri Bottas around the streets of Budapest as part of the Great Race event, an annual display that celebrates motorsport and anything else motorized.
It is thought that almost a quarter of a million Hungarian fans lined the streets to see Valtteri and Daniel burn some rubber and they certainly weren't disappointed.
“It's a tight and bumpy layout but for what we are doing it's fine," Daniel said. "We still get some good speed, lot of donuts, lots of smoke and it's full, the whole course is full of people!"
The F1 duo were not the only racing drivers on hand with WTCC entrant Norbert Michelisz also in action as well as past greats such as Karl Wendlinger and Gerhard Berger. DTM drivers Robert Wickens, Timo Glock and Nico Müller were also smoking up the streets in the blazing sun.
While his RB13 was on it's way back to the factory, Ricciardo had the pleasure of driving the V8 powered RB7 and he made sure he made the most of it!
"We had a good time, there were all sort of other categories here – cars, driver – and everyone put on a good show,” Daniel said. “There were tens of thousands of people here; I think we had a great turn out."
"Also, the sun was out for most of the day so it was a success. I've had many good memories here: in F1 a victory and many podiums, and other categories too. A lot of my loyal fans are here in Budapest which is really nice, so I like this place a lot.”
