Australian gun all-rounder Cameron Green has locked in his BBL return with the Perth Scorchers for the 12th instalment of the competition.

Green made his breakthrough as the sport's next big thing with the Scorchers during the ninth season of the BBL, but has failed to feature since owing to his rapid rise into the Test team.

His signing will see him play as many as six games for the Perth-based outfit this season, with the Australian all-format to be occupied prior to then with a heavy white ball schedule, before he switches his attention to back-to-back Test series against the West Indies and South Africa.

The 23-year-old becomes the latest Australian all-format star to commit to the BBL, following Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne (Brisbane Heat), David Warner (Sydney Thunder), Travis Head and Alex Carey (Adelaide Strikers) and Nathan Lyon (Sydney Sixers).

Only Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have indicated they don't want a BBL contract and will skip the tournament, while Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood (both likely to be Sydney Sixers) are still weighing up their options.

โ€œI'm really excited to be back with the Scorchers. I watched their success from afar last season and saw how much fun the group had, so I really can't wait to get back in and play some good cricket for the team," Green said.

โ€œThe group have so much confidence in their own game, and I think they know how to win and can win from anywhere, and when you're winning games, you're having fun.

โ€œPerth fans missed out on so much cricket last year and you can see how much it means to the team to be back playing in WA in front of a really supportive crowd - it's something I'm really looking forward to.โ€

Head coach Adam Voges said he will bring plenty to the team.

โ€œWe're thrilled to see Cam back in Scorchers colours. To add a player of his calibre to our strong group of local players is enormous," Voges said.

โ€œHis talent with bat and ball has regularly been on show for WA and Australia in recent years, and we're excited by the versatility he offers us.โ€

Green has played 14 T20 matches with one of them at international level during his short career to date which has seen as many Test matches for Australia.
