The MotoGP championship has hit the mid-season mark with the two competitions in Holland and Germany, and for Andrea Dovizioso it is going to be a weekend of MotoGP at the top of the world standings.
It seems that the win in Mugello was a turning point for the rider from Forlì and that the Desmosedici GP is responding perfectly to the demands of the Italian rider. This first part of the season showed us the great advances made by the Desmosedici GP, now competitive on every kind of track and in all conditions.
The Sachsenring circuit is located in the former East Germany, near the town of Chemnitz. The track is one of the slowest on the calendar, with an extensive section consisting in a series of left curves followed by a right-hand corner that leads into the fast part. Curve 11 is therefore often the site of spectacular falls, as the tyres undergo significant thermal stress on the left side followed by sub-optimal conditions on the right side, creating sudden losses of grip.
The track also requires a setup that is well balanced because much of the time on the track is spent throttling through corners. The circuit was recently re-asphalted, thereby increasing the unknowns for the MotoGP race, as the tyre behaviour will have to be tested on the new surface.
“The Sachsenring is a track that has created a few problems for us in the past, but it has just been resurfaced and so it will be new for everyone,” Dovi said. “As always we will have to take account of the behaviour of the tyres, especially in this case seeing as no one has been able to test on the new track surface."
"It gives me great satisfaction to arrive in Germany as leader of the championship, but it won't change my way of racing because, even in the past, I've never raced for each individual result, always with one eye on the championship: we'll try and do a good job here in Germany to get the best possible result in Sunday's race.”
