James Duckworth and Maddison Inglis have won their way through to the main draw of the 2016 Australian Open.

Duckworth won the final of the wildcard playoff after in a walk over, after his opponent Ben Mitchell flew home to be with his wife for the birth of his baby.

Duckworth beat former world No. 39 Marinko Matosevic 4-6 6-3 7-6(7) 7-6(8) to reach the final, his first win in five attempts against Matosevic.

It will be Duckworth's fifth appearance at the Australian open.

On the women's side of the draw, teenager Maddison Inglis beat Arina Rodionova 6-4 6-2 to win her way through to the main draw.

Inglis just recently missed out on a wildcard in the U18 Australian Championships, before regrouping to win the wildcard playoff in a brilliant display.

โ€œI was exhausted after the 18s, just mentally and physically. I don't know โ€“ I got through it,โ€ Inglis said.

โ€œI'm so happy right now. I actually can't believe it still. I was so nervous during that whole second set โ€“ I can't believe I got through it, to be honest.โ€
