Wellington captain Andrew Durante has labeled Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha a liar after he successfully appealed his two-game ban on Tuesday night.

Berisha was given a red card and a two-game suspension for kicking Durante during Victory's 4-1 win over the Phoenix in Round 26.

He was initially given a two-match ban, but last night had his suspension reduced, meaning he is free to play in Melbourne's elimination final against Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

In his testimony, Berisha claimed that Durante pushed down on his throat, prompting him to lash out at the defender.

"He moved close to my hip with his boot and he said 'You have nothing wrong, stand up', and he kept pushing at my hip," Berisha said.

"He was pushing down on my throat and I couldn't even talk to the doctor."

However, Durante was incensed by the comments, taking to social media to label Berisha a liar.

"What a bunch of disgraceful lies. Grabbed him by the throat?? Can I please get sent that footage? I won't have my name tarnished by lies," Durante wrote.

The FFA's independent disciplinary committee reduced Berisha's ban after agreeing that the Albanian was baited into reacting by Durante, which was unacceptable.
