English coach Trevor Bayliss says the level of sledging occurring in the current Ashes series is too much, following another heated day in the field on Sunday between England and Australia.
Fast bowler Stuart Broad gave Peter Handscomb an aggressive send off after the pair were involved in a heated discussion following the conclusion of day one.
Steve Smith and James Anderson had to separated by umpire Aleem Dar after they were also involved in an ongoing chat which was picked up by cameras towards the end of day one.
Despite senior players Anderson and Broad at the centre of the confrontations with the Aussies, Bayliss told reports he is uncomfortable with the level of sledging occurring on the field and has called for the stump mics to be turned down.
“Personally from my point of view, probably not,” Bayliss said.
“And that goes from both sides.
“But it's just the way the game is these days.
“I would like to see the microphones turned down.
“I don't think that is necessarily a great thing for young kids at home watching.
“It adds to the spectacle when you hear playing the game.
“But I don't think anyone necessarily actually has to listen to what is being said.”
